ARC Review: Fake Skating by Lynn Painter

Publication Date: September 30, 2025

This book seriously took me back in time to being seventeen. Alec and Dani read so truly like high schoolers trying to figure everything out. The very best YA books take you back to that age and time of your life while immersing you in another’s life, and Fake Skating absolutely did that and more.

It wasn’t just Alec and Dani who I felt read so true- it was the entire cast of characters. From the whole school’s fixation on a sports team to the amount a hand-hold caused chaos, there was so much relatability. Both Alec and Dani have so much going on besides their relationship, and I loved the depth to each of them.

There wasn’t a part of Fake Skating that didn’t captivate me. The story just flowed so well, and once again, Lynn Painter had me falling in love. She’s coming to Houston on her tour in October and I could not be more excited to meet her and geek out about this book!

Thank you to Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing and Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers for the opportunity to read and review this book! I received a free advance copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
