Emerie’s books are storytelling at its best: a realness and honesty about life combined with the beauty of falling in love. Anaya and Evander’s love story has so much depth and complex emotions wrapped in it. Summer Lies and Bourbon Eyes was an incredible story of love, family, and finding happiness despite all odds.
Calling the family dynamics surrounding Anaya and Evander messy might be generous. Both characters have some work of their own to do in regard to their own extended relationships, and these relationships do sometimes come in between them. I loved the honesty and patience with which they were enacted, making Anaya and Evander truly feel their age while also giving them the ability to mature and grow.
I really loved reading this book, and I’m so grateful to Emerie for telling these stories! There’s so much warmth between these love interests, and as usual, her spice is just the perfect amount. This story isn’t light and fluffy; I think it has the perfect amount of reality to truly show Anaya and Evander as the real people they are. It was a wonderful read and a book I truly recommend!
