ARC Review: The Best I Never Had by Amy Buchanan

Publication Date: August 18, 2026

Thea and Owen’s second chance story was truly a great example of reconnecting at the right time. In The Best I Never Had, Thea and Owen are launched back into each other’s lives and are thoroughly entertaining in the process. With so many hijinks and chaotic family meddling, there was never a dull moment in this love story.

Much of this story was a push and pull between the desire between Thea and Owen themselves and the desires of those around them. Their chemistry was incredible and it’s no wonder that they found themselves brought together. There’s so much love in this story and I’m so happy that Thea and Owen’s love story came together as it did.

Family plays such a huge role in this book, as both Thea and Owen have complex relationships with their respective families. They each spend a decent amount of time maneuvering their familial relationships in an effort to protect those relationships. There’s so much growth that takes place during the course of this story, and I enjoyed seeing these dynamics grow and prosper.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and St. Martin’s Griffin for the opportunity to read and review this book! I received a free advance copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
