Like so many others, I was so deeply touched after reading Ellen O’Clover’s book The Heartbreak Hotel, and when I saw that If Not You was available on NetGalley, I went FLYING to add it to my shelves. From the very start, I was hooked on Mattie and Campbell’s professional rivalry combined with their incredible chemistry, and this book was impossible to put down. 

Mattie and Campbell are the kind of characters who even when they frustrate you individually, you can’t help but need for them to have a happy ending together. I loved seeing their past rivalry intermingled with their present. It was both wildly entertaining and endearing seeing the “it was always you” trope play out, and that’s always a favorite of mine. 

I was so enamored with the ways that Mattie and Campbell ultimately chose to show their affection for one another, as well as how they found their own independent voices. If Not You is a beautiful story of two writers ultimately choosing their own happy ending, and I loved every moment of reading it.
